ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Physical Education a constituent unit of Puducherry Technological University and established in the year 1995 to promote physical education & Sports and develop an interest among people regarding the need and importance of sports and exercise which is a medium to improve the community health.
The Department of Physical Education offers an impressive range of facilities and equipment, which operate at the cutting edge of Physical Health and Sports Sciences.
A well implemented, comprehensive programme is an essential component to the growth of both body and mind. Hence, the Department has started its regular sports activities of conducting various sports activities from its inception. The Department of Physical Education is well equipped with modern infrastructure facilities, including facilities for all games and sports.

Sports and games being an integral part of Puducherry Technological University (PTU) total educational programme, the following Indoor and Outdoor facilities are developed and maintained for students.

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS
Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology organised Inter Collegiate Futsal Men and Women “Stellar’s Trophy -2022” Tournament, held from 4th May to 7th May 2022.
Women team Secured 4th Place received cash prize and Medals.

CAP’S INTER COLLEGIATE T20 TOURNAMENT – 2022
More than 24 teams were participated in CAP’s Inter Collegiate T20 Tournament. Organized by Cricket Association of Puducherry approved by BCCI – India. Held from 3rd May to 6th June 2022.

PUDUCHERRY SPORTS, GAMES AND CULTURAL MEET 2020
Directorate of Higher and Technical Education organized State level Inter Collegiate Mega Sports Event Entitled “Puducherry Sports, Games and Cultural Meet 2020” held at Karaikal and Puducherry region held from 1st to 8th February 2020. 39 Events were conducted into two categories for men and women.
For this event more than 39 institutions actively participated from four regions (Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam) of Puducherry. Our institution Men and Women 253 players were registered in 37 out of 39 events. The events are Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Best Physique, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Marathon, Power lifting, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Weight Lifting.
Our institution players creates records in various Sport and Games Events, The Achievements are as follows:

INTER-COLLEGIATE TENNIS BALL CRICKET TOURNAMENT - 2020
Tagore Arts and Science College organized state level staff cricket (Tennis Ball Cricket) tournament held at 5th March to 9th March. PTU team secured 1st place in that tournament.

FIT INDIA FREEDOM RUN 2.0
The Department of Physical Education, Puducherry Technological University, organized Fit India movement freedom run 2.0 in the University campus from 15thAugust to 2nd October 2021. The 1stevent of 2km walkathon was held on 15th August 2021 on the Occasion of 75th Independence Day. More than 30 faculty and staff members were actively participated in this event. The Walkathon event was inaugurated by our beloved principal Dr.K.Vivekanandan, and respected Registrar Dr. N. Sreenath. Prize distribution ceremony for this event was felicitated by our beloved principal and respected Registrar by distributing prizes for the winners and participants.

The 2nd event was aerobic fitness week which was conducted through virtual mode held from 23rd to 27th august 2021, in which 50 students were registered and participated. WALKATHON FOR FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBERS
The 4th event was walkathon for faculty and staff members from 27th September to 1st October 2021. 128 faculty / staff members actively participated in this event. In this event all the Heads of the Department and Most respected Principals, Registrar and Controller of Examinations were participated and grace the Occasion.

FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - CHALLENGE
Event
The Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the "Fit India Movement" at a ceremony in New Delhi on 29th August 2019 on the occasion of National Sports Day. The Prime Minister urged the people of the country to make fitness their life style. Launching the people’s movement on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyanchand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Major Dhyanchand, India’s sports icon who enthralled the world with his game and techniques. He also congratulated the young sportspersons of the country who are keeping the tricolor afloat on the world stage through their efforts.
AICTE's FIT India Challenge is one of the initiative supporting Government FIT India Movement. The event of Fit India Challenges was held on 10 November to 4th December 2021 @ Department of Physical Education and Sports.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports, Puducherry Technological University is organized Basic Physical Fitness and Conditioning exercise programme for students. The Programme entitled “Fit to Live” and will be held from 18th October to 17th December 2021 in multipurpose sports ground PTU campus between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm every day. More than 50 students were actively participated in this event. The students had more physical benefit, reduced mental stress and improved wealth related physical fitness also.

REPORT ON THE ANNUAL SPORTS DAY – 2021-22
Annual Sports Day for the academic year 2021-22 was organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports on 17th May 2022 in PTU Sports Ground at 4.30pm.
The programme was commenced with an invocation song by PTU Students volunteers. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. S. Kanmani, Dean (Students). The Annual Sports Meet report for the year 2021-22 was delivered by Dr. S. Sivamani, Director of Physical Education, Department of Physical Education and Sports, PTU. During this juncture Faculty, Staff members and Students of PTU were presented and witness the event.
The Chief Guest of this event was Prof. S. Mohan, Vice-Chancellor, Puducherry Technological University, delivered the Chief Guest Address. Followed by Felicitation address delivered by Prof. G. Sivaradje, Registrar of PTU.
After the dignitaries speech the winners and the runners of the Sports events for the year 2021-22 was Honored by Certificates and Medals. The dignitaries on the dias distributed the prize and encourage the Students.
